“Plug & Play:” I’m Certain Married At First Sight’s Emem Obot Is Moving Too Fast In New Relationship With Brandon Williams (Glaring Red Flags Are Present)

I am positive Married at First Sight season 18’s Emem Obot is moving too fast in her new engagement to Brandon Williams amid her ex-husband Ikechi Ojoré’s “plug and play” theory. 34-year-old Emem had a troubled marriage with Ikechi upon arriving back to Chicago from their honeymoon. I watched Emem’s direct style of communication cause concern with Ikechi, who wanted Emem to be less “aggressive” and get to know him more organically. To me, Emem had a hard time hearing what Ikechi needed, while Ikechi became so closed off by Emem, that he reacted poorly.

While I don’t think Ikechi’s behavior and verbal bashing of Emem was okay by any stretch, I do think he had the right intuition about Emem having a one-track mind. After Ikechi and Emem declared their decision to get a divorce, Emem was out on a date within days with a man she knew from middle school, Brandon. Within a week, they were in love and Brandon proposed. Their quick relationship has raised many red flags for me, and I don’t think Emem is being wise.

Emem & Brandon Are Both Coming Off Divorces

Emem and Brandon reconnected while they were both going through divorces. Brandon had been with his wife for 10 years, and had two children with her. Brandon’s divorce was not finalized when he proposed to Emem, and her divorce was not official yet either. Instead of taking the time to get to know each other, they moved at lightening speed, which I feel is immature and irresponsible. Moreover, Brandon made it seem like his kids were a non-factor in their relationship, as he attested that he wanted to have kids with Emem.

Moreover, I think Brandon love-bombed Emem, and is endeavoring to isolate her.

“I wanna heal all them wounds.”

“We keep all the squares out our circle.”

Other points Brandon made in front of Emem’s cast mates, Karla Juarez and Camille Parsons were concerning. He said he had no light in his life until he met Emem, which to me and Karla and Camille was wholly problematic.

“I’m sorry, but he has to have more light at the end of the tunnel than her,” Karla blasted.

I am not buying Brandon’s nice guy persona. He may have a steady and admirable job as a Firefighter Lieutenant, but he is coming off way too strong. I think Emem is disillusioned by Brandon’s promises of fixing her and doing right by her, that she does not see how outrageous the whole situation is.

Emem is not showcasing her smart and responsible side in her pursuit of Brandon, and is ignoring any sense of reality in an effort to show off she’s gotten what she wanted.

Emem & Brandon Have Not Spent Enough Time Getting To Know Each Other

The Married at First Sight season 18 spoiler given during the season 18 reunion, was that Emem and Brandon are still together. However, Emem relayed that they had many ups and downs, and I think that’s due to them not actually knowing each other upon getting engaged. Emem and Brandon moved too fast, and that’s why I believed they encountered growing pains. The love bombing, unrealistic life blending, and disregard for the status of their marriages is unsavory to me. I don’t think the pair will last, and that their red flag relationship will run them into the ground.

Emem Proved Ikechi Right

I now believe Ikechi called it. When he and Emem were going through the end of their marriage, Ikechi relayed that he thought Emem wanted a husband, and it didn’t matter who it was as long as they wanted marriage.

Later, he clarified Emem as wanting a “plug and play” husband, which I agree with.

Through Emem’s swift and reckless engagement, she has demonstrated that she just wants to be a wife, and is willing to ignore everything else. While I feel for Emem’s need to be loved, she is too grown to be going about her love life in this way. Emem proved Ikechi right, and I think Emem moved too fast, and ignored all the red flags present with Brandon in order to be a married woman.
