Married At First Sight’s Emem Obot’s Fiancé Brandon Williams’ Behavior Is A Major Red Flag

After Emem Obot left her Married At First Sight husband, Ikechi Ojoré, she ended up falling into the arms of her childhood friend, Brandon Williams. Sadly, the cracks in Emem and Ikechi’s relationship started showing early on. Emem tried to go into the experience with an open mind, but she didn’t get the same in return from Ikechi, so the couple didn’t last long.

After Ikechi and Emem split earlier in the season, Emem surprised the rest of the cast (and the show’s expert panel) with the news that she wasn’t just dating Brandon – he’d actually proposed. I’m happy that Emem got away from Ikechi, but I’m concerned that her new relationship with Brandon has some red flags. Brandon and Emem’s entire courtship was filmed for the show, including his proposal in a ring store. Emem was also rebounding from her marriage with Ikechi, and I’m concerned that this made her move too fast with Brandon.

Emem And Brandon Moved Too Fast

While Brandon and Emem have known each other for years, their romantic relationship moved quickly. They reconnected as adults, and at the time, Brandon was a father of two who was going through a divorce and crashing on his sister’s couch. Emem didn’t seem to mind, and within a week of seeing each other, Brandon proposed to Emem and soon, they were shopping for rings.

Despite being on a show about marrying someone, sight unseen, Emem’s willingness to move fast with Brandon is concerning. While there’s no doubt the two care for each other, they should slow down and get to know each other without the pressure of the show before they get married. Emem can’t hide her smile when Brandon is around, but I’m worried she didn’t fully process what happened with Ikechi and is masking that in her relationship with Brandon.

Brandon has a dominant personality, and he is Emem’s protector and defender. Emem might have been feeling insecure after her relationship with Ikechi failed, and Brandon’s attitude towards her and their relationship probably seemed appealing. Brandon rode in like Emem’s Prince Charming to rescue her from Ikechi, but I hope the fairy tale lasts.

Brandon Seems To Like Fame

From the moment Brandon strode onto our screens, it was clear he had feelings for Emem. Their chemistry sizzled, a stark contrast to Emem’s experience with Ikechi. It was refreshing to see Emem so happy after she looked traumatized following her split with Ikechi.

Brandon’s confidence when wooing Emem may have stemmed from the fact that he knew she’d been humiliated on TV, so her ego was probably bruised. Brandon’s interest in Emem boosted her confidence, and made her feel like she wasn’t the problem in her marriage to Ikechi. She’s in a vulnerable spot, and it might not be the best for her to jump into something new.

I can’t help but feel like Brandon loves being on the show. Even when he walked on stage at the reunion, after Ikechi refused to shake his hand, Brandon happily squealed that he’d “won a bet,” pumping himself up even more. He said he’d made a bet that Ikechi wasn’t man enough to shake his hand and won. It was slightly immature of him, and it made me think he might have ulterior motives.

Brandon Tried To Marry Emem At The Reunion

After bounding onto the stage with the thrill of winning his little bet, Brandon went hard about how much he loved Emem. The show’s experts expressed their concerns that this might be moving too fast, but Emem shut them down when she said, “Experts, I need you to understand that this was the level of commitment I was looking for.” Emem says she’s experienced nothing but love and consistency from Brandon, so she has no doubts about him.

Then, Brandon ruins everything by jumping up and asking for Pastor Cal Roberson, one of the show’s experts, to marry them on the spot. It’s an awkward moment, because Pastor Cal isn’t having it. He agrees they can talk about it off-camera, but he doesn’t go through with the stunt. Brandon’s actions here make my suspicions even worse, since he seems like he wants to put on a show, not marry the love of his life.

Now that the reunion has aired, we’ll get some glimpses of the participants’ lives today when the Married At First Sight Where Are They Now: It’s Vow Or Never special airs, so I’m hoping to see Brandon and Emem are in a healthy partnership. They’re both private on social media, but I think fans deserve an update on where they stand. Here’s hoping they can deliver.
