Married At First Sight Season 18’s David & Madison Will Never Make It (There Are Too Many Red Flags In Their Relationship)
Out of the five couples who chose to get married without ever laying eyes on their spouses on this season of Married At First Sight, only one original couple remained together following Decision Day, and, in a shocking twist, one surprising new couple emerged. David Trimble and Madison Myers were originally paired with other partners: Madison was paired with and married to Allen Slovick, while David was married to Michelle Tomblin.
After connecting during a gym session on their honeymoon in the Mexican Riviera, David and Madison struck up a friendship that led to them choosing to leave their partners and explore a connection together, rocking the MAFS universe and becoming Married At First Sight season 18’s villains in the process. This is a first for MAFS, which already has a poor track record of matching people up. It was truly a shocking twist that viewers did not see coming.
I’m a relatively new MAFS viewer, and as a seasoned reality TV show fan, I’m used to dramatic bombshells, shocking plot twists, and jaw-dropping confessions, but even I wasn’t prepared for the chaos in David and Madison’s relationship. Again, while on their honeymoon following their weddings to their respective partners, David and Madison decided to pursue their attraction for one another and begin what is best described as an emotional affair that eventually turned physical. And as someone who’s seen it all, I don’t see how David and Madison’s relationship will work long-term.
Madison And David’s Relationship Is Based On Dishonesty
One of the biggest predictors of a successful relationship is the foundation on which it’s built. The foundation David and Madison’s relationship was built on is lies, deceit, and temptation. That doesn’t bode well for their future, but you wouldn’t know it based on the way the two have paraded their relationship around, showing up to parties with the cast together and shamelessly rubbing their relationship in Allen and Michelle’s faces. It’s not a good look, and it shows the type of people they are deep down.
David and Michelle have already proved they have no problem lying to their partners, so the fact that they think it won’t happen again is downright delusional. They’ve demonstrated they have no problem crossing ethical boundaries. The potential for something inappropriate to happen again is high, but they don’t see it because they’re still in the honeymoon phase.
Madison Believes David Changed For Her
Throughout the aftermath of their affair, David and Madison have continued pursuing their relationship with each other despite all the red flags. Madison says she can tell David is a “good-hearted person” and that she brings out that side of him. This implies that Michelle could not bring that “good-hearted” side of David out, which places the blame on David’s ex for the failure of their relationship, not on David and Madison’s affair.
When David and Madison celebrated her 30th birthday, David went all out to show her how much he cared for her. He decorated their hotel room in Madison’s favorite color, purple, and as the two canoodled, Madison said she hoped their relationship would last longer than the honeymoon stage. David admits he’s made mistakes in the past but says he won’t mess up this time, which prompts Madison to say that she feels like she won the lottery with David.
Why does David feel that he won’t mess things up with Madison? Because they’re still experiencing the rush of the affair, and they’re blinded to reality. The reality is, if your partner can only be a good and decent human being if they’re with the “right” person, they aren’t a good and decent human being. David says he won’t mess up this time but offers no insight into how he’s grown or learned from his past. It’s only a matter of time before David decides Madison isn’t bringing out his “good” side and does the same thing to her.
Madison And David Can’t Accept Responsibility
Producers of Married At First Sight attempted to give David and Madison the chance to own their mistakes and offer genuine apologies to their original partners. However, because of the level of David and Madison’s emotional maturity, they instead got defensive and blamed their partners for the affair. David seems to think that if Michelle hadn’t been so judgmental towards him, he never would have strayed.
Madison is getting a crash course in how David manages conflict: Anger, deflection, and defensiveness. Neither David nor Madison cares about Allen and Michelle’s feelings. They don’t bat an eye at the pain they caused for so many. Instead, they try and justify their actions by saying they never “intended” to hurt anyone, which doesn’t matter and only makes it worse.
In my opinion, David and Madison are a match made in heaven because they both have a lot of growing up to do. They deserve each other, and hopefully, Allen and Michelle can move forward and find happiness someday. And I hope Allen and Michelle know they are better off without David and Madison in their lives.
