Married At First Sight Season 18: I’ve Changed My Mind, I Think That Michelle Tomblin & David Trimble Will Have A Successful Marriage (Contrary To Rumors)
I’ve changed my mind about Married at First Sight season 18 couple David Trimble and Michelle Tomblin and their outcome. I thought they were destined to fail in their marriage, but now I think they will be successful. Married at First Sight season 18 is in full swing. All five couples in the eight-week-long experiment said yes to marrying a stranger at the altar. Joining David and Michelle as couples this season are Karla Juarez and Juan Franco, Emem Obot and Ikechi Ojoré, Camille Parsons and Thomas, and Madison Myers and Allen Slovick.
MAFS season 18 is already more successful than the last four seasons of the show, as all the couples are still together going into their one-month anniversaries. For comparison, in season 17, one couple split directly following the honeymoon, and another ended things on their one-month anniversary, although it should have been sooner. While I believe David and Michelle have had the most problems thus far, I think they are making positive headway into a bright future together, and they are striving to understand each other better and getting help from the experts.
David & Michelle’s MAFS Journey So Far
David asked the Married at First Sight experts for a blonde-haired blue-eyed independent woman, and that’s exactly what he got in Michelle. Michelle wanted a tall, dark, and edgy man who was respectful and successful, which are all qualities found in David. Where the initial disconnect happened, was when David told Michelle that he smoked cigarettes and lived in his parents’ basement during their very first conversation. I watched Michelle immediately feel overwhelmed by the notion she was not getting what she asked for, and she had serious contempt for David’s living situation, and continued to harbor that feeling.
During the honeymoon, Michelle was clearly off-put by David, and their communication and ability to continue getting to know each other also deteriorated. Michelle thought David was smothering her with communication when she wanted to be left alone, which left David feeling rejected and at a loss about how to proceed. Michelle told David she wasn’t attracted to him, and let the producers know she was checked out. Upon returning to Chicago from the Mexico honeymoon, Michelle and David made up some ground.
David explained that he had his own separate unit at his parents’ house, and that he lived there for multi-generational living, and to help his parents out with their mortgage. He relayed that he has the means to move out and buy a property whenever he wants. However, Michelle was further unimpressed after seeing his apartment first hand (via Access Hollywood.) Michelle and David have also been battling with having opposite schedules, as David works two jobs.
Michelle and David have not been alone in the experiment though, as they have been able to meet with the experts, who have offered them, I think, solid guidance and different perspectives.
The experts have been encouraging Michelle to see David’s good qualities, and they’ve confronted her with her interview footage, which underscores how David is a great match for her.
For David, he has been told to keep being himself, and to keep showing up for Michelle as she tries to navigate her feelings and attraction to him.
Michelle & David Have Been Criticized Individually
Myself, and other Married at First Sight fans have been loud in our individual criticisms of David and Michelle. I thought Michelle came off as selfish, single-minded, and wholly a bad choice of cast for her rigidity and unwillingness to compromise. I felt the experts should never have chosen David because of his living situation and because he did not come off as someone serious about settling down. I’ve been watching Reddit feeds about David and Michelle closely, and there have been several negative narratives about both of them.
u/Vixen81x on Reddit shared a strong and well-liked perspective on Michelle’s unfitness for marriage.
“I honestly do not think Michelle would be happy with anyone, as she is not happy with herself. She has way too many expectations for a show like married at first sight!”
In another thread by u/Tom67570, David was put on blast in a post that aligned with my own views on him.
“David has no business being on the show. I’m sure he’s a good guy, probably fun to crush beers with but not marriage material at this point in his life.”
I felt a lot of disdain for David and Michelle up until the latest two episodes in shared sentiments with other Married at First Sight fans, but now my opinion has changed.
I Think David & Michelle Will Find Compromise & Adoration
Since the experts hit Michelle with her interview footage clearly highlighting that David is the perfect match for her, I think she will come around. Michelle is a smart, persevering, and proud person, and while I think her pride is getting in the way of understanding David’s lifestyle, I think she will let her walls down after sitting with the experts’ evidence.
Michelle is standing in her own way, but the experts are employing her to be humbled.
What’s more, Michelle has not given up, and she is making the effort to spend quality time with David.
I see David knowing that the compatibility with Michelle is there, and his determination to see the process through and practice patience with Michelle’s process is a good sign. David is doing all he can to reassure Michelle that he is not going anywhere, something that I feel Michelle needs. Between Michelle’s work on herself and changing her perspectives and David’s steadfastness, I’m certain the Married at First Sight season 18 couple will find adoration.
What’s To Come For David & Michelle In MAFS Season 18?
I don’t think the road blocks are out of the way for David and Michelle yet, as Michelle is still struggling to find her attraction to David. However, I think after spending more time with each other’s friends and family, and doing activities that they bond during, they will find their way. My initial negative outlook on David and Michelle’s potential has changed into one that sees how their marriage could work, it’s just going to take a lot of effort on both their parts.
The cheating scandal and couples swap that is looming this season are still in the back of my mind. Either David or Michelle could be a part of that, but it’s too early to tell and not enough concrete evidence exists to prove who is involved this season. But my feeling is that David and Michelle will continue to make baby steps that will pay off for them in Married at First Sight season 18.
