Married At First Sight: Are Madison Myers & David Trimble Getting A Redemption Arc Amid Their Cheating Scandal? (I Don’t Think They Deserve The Opportunity)

Married at First Sight season 18 cast members David Trimble and Madison Myers were the proponents of a cheating scandal, and I think they are unjustly being given a redemption arc. David started Married at First Sight season 18 getting married to Michelle Tomblin at the altar as a stranger, while Madison married Allen Slovick. David and Michelle had issues from their first conversation, as Michelle was wholly unimpressed by David’s demeanor and living situation. Their relationship continued to spiral, but I saw it showed small signs of hope before it ultimately came crashing down because of David.

Madison and Allen seemed smitten on their wedding day, but Madison and her family let Allen know that he was not Madison’s type at all. Allen tried his best to get Madison to develop romantic feelings, but they only came to a friendship. Then, Madison started spending late nights away from Allen and their shared apartment before the situation devolved into what I think is the biggest scandal in Married at First Sight history. Now, I see the MAFS producers are trying to save themselves from discredit by giving David and Madison a redemption arc, which is not a good look.

Madison & David Played Their Spouses

David and Madison first developed a connection when they met for the first time and began a gym buddy relationship during the honeymoon with their spouses. They would hang out with each other at the gym and talk every day unbeknownst to their spouses. But David outed himself as a cheater when he missent a deviant text meant for Madison to his wife, Michelle.

“You are so damn fine I just wanna eat U up.”

When Michelle confronted David, he lied to Michelle and the experts’ faces at every turn. It was only when Michelle surmised that the text was meant for Madison and blew the situation up during the couples retreat that they came clean. Upon a producer’s prompt, Madison sat and talked with David, and they admitted their feelings for one another and intention to officially ditch their spouses to start a relationship together. Since then, the pair got together with the group twice, and, distastefully to me, rubbed their happiness in their exes’ faces while coming across unremorseful and combative

Madison & David Have Been Getting A Lot Of Air Time

Outside of the two group get-togethers where I thought they unscrupulously represented themselves, cameras have followed Madison and David on two other occasions that rubbed me the wrong way. The first was the night after the group reunion at Juan Franco’s shop when Madison came for Michelle after trying to speak for Michelle. David and Madison went to a tattoo shop, where David got his tattoo of his ex’s name on his chest covered up. The pair were flirtatious and shared a kiss during the session, driving home the idea of how happy they were.

Then, in what I felt was a gross display, David and Madison went out for ice cream, and they gushed about how good their physical intimacy was. While I understand David and Madison are now a new couple in the show, their outright defiance of the show’s parameters and dismissing of their original relationships is not okay to me because I feel they are bad people. I’m positive David and Madison’s relationship is not something the show should be proud of. They’ve left hurt feelings and disdain in their wake, but are still getting a good chunk of screen time.

Madison & David Should Not Be Rewarded For Diminishing The Show

Instead of making an example of David and Madison for damaging the show’s reputation, credibility, and entire premise, I think the Married at First Sight producers have been rewarding them with air time. David and Madison have fashioned themselves into villains for their lies, and careless and reckless approach to beginning their relationship.

To me, David and Madison have opened up Married at First Sight’s esteem and trajectory to something that is less functional and more high-drama, which is not what the show has been about.

Married at First Sight is meant to expertly match participants and give them the tools to do right by their partners and the basis of the show. If the couples are now matching themselves and acting with impunity, I don’t know what good the experts are. Furthermore, I don’t agree with rewarding bad behavior with more air time, as the producers have clearly done. David and Madison are getting a redemption arc that is lost on me and makes feel negatively about where the show is going.
