Married at first sight

David Trimble & Michelle Tomblin Are The Worst Married At First Sight Season 18 Match

Married At First Sight season 18 couple David Trimble and Michelle Tomblin’s marriage seemed doomed from the start. Michelle, 38, decided to get married at first sight after being single for six years. She was eager to find her soulmate and start a family despite her unsuccessful dating history. Meanwhile, David, 35, joined the show after ending a 12-year relationship. He’s extremely close with his family and finds inspiration in his parents’ strong marriage.

Although they are a good match on paper, David and Michelle’s differences emerged immediately. Michelle spent their wedding crying in the bathroom, while David was completely oblivious. Things continued to spiral downward on their Mexican honeymoon. Michelle really shut down and was disinterested in getting to know her new spouse. She asked for space, leaving David to spend their honeymoon alone.

Michelle Is Turned Off By David’s Living Situation

David and Michelle’s problems started when she learned that he still lived with his parents. She called his living situation a “turn off” and couldn’t move past her disgust. Michelle assumed that David was unmotivated and couldn’t take care of himself. She said she wanted a husband who would “match my lifestyle,” insinuating David’s goals didn’t align with hers.

David explained that his reasons for living with his parents were purely financial, but Michelle wasn’t convinced. She was fixated on David’s living situation, and it shaped her opinion about him. David tried to connect with Michelle by asking about her family in the hopes of understanding why she was so bothered. However, Michelle immediately asked why he wanted to know, which proves that she had no intention of building a connection with her new husband.

David And Michelle Have Opposite Schedules

The new couple’s trouble continued on their first night together. David’s work alarm went off at 4:45 in the morning, adding to the frustration of Michelle’s sleepless night. He explained that his two jobs require him to get up early and work late. Michelle then pointed out that her and David’s conflicting schedules would barely leave them any time to spend together.

Even after David turned off his alarm, the couple’s sleeping situation was another sign of their incompatibility. Michelle was astounded by David’s habit of eating late at night and working out first thing in the morning. While these issues alone aren’t insurmountable, David and Michelle were unable to find any common ground. They stopped attempting to share a bed as the divide between them grew.

Michelle’s Inflexibility Prevents Their Relationship From Progressing

David started his marriage committed to establishing a connection with Michelle. When his efforts weren’t getting him anywhere, he confided in his Married At First Sight castmate Madison Myers, who encouraged him to keep pushing Michelle to open up. David was surprisingly able to connect more with Madison during their short conversation than he ever had with Michelle. He was inspired by Madison’s advice, but unfortunately, his persistence only further overwhelmed Michelle.

Michelle’s inflexibility is proving to be the biggest hurdle in her marriage. She and David are very different people, but they could still build a connection if they were both invested in their relationship. Michelle doesn’t see what they have in common, which makes her less motivated to look past their differences. But when David tries to make casual conversation, Michelle continuously rejects him. Her body language shows how disinterested she is, which will eventually lead him to stop trying.

How David And Michelle Could Save Their Marriage

David and Michelle’s marriage doesn’t stand a chance unless she learns to be more flexible. Michelle shut David out because he didn’t meet her expectations. She admitted she wasn’t physically attracted to him, which seemed to inhibit her motivation to work on their relationship. Michelle also judges David for what she sees as a lack of drive, but this is based purely on the fact that he lives with his parents. If she opened her heart to learn more about him, she might find they aren’t as different as she thinks.

The couple’s conflicting coping mechanisms also cause problems. Michelle wants space when she gets overwhelmed, while David wants to keep working until there is a resolution. They would have a much better chance at success if they respected each other’s boundaries. David should honor Michelle’s need for space, and she should see the good intentions behind David’s efforts.

Although David and Michelle’s marriage had an incredibly rocky start, there is still a chance they could turn things around. Once they find out what they have in common, they can start to build a foundation. It’s possible that the Married At First Sight relationship experts made a mistake and David and Michelle are simply incompatible. But opposites can also attract. David and Michelle will never find out whether they have a future together if they never establish a connection.
