What Happened To Ryan Oubre After Married At First Sight Season 12?

Married At First Sight season 12 star Ryan Oubre opted to walk away from his marriage to Clara Berghaus a few months after the filming ended and has maintained a low profile since, leaving many wondering what he has been doing and whether he settled down. Ryan and Clara struggled to have an intimate connection. Clara expressed her frustrations with Ryan to her MAFS co-stars, stating that he had not told any of the girls he dated that he loved them, which was a red flag. Despite her worries, the couple still said yes on Decision Day.

During the reunion special, Ryan and Clara stated they were living together and planning to buy a home. The pair also planned on having a big celebration on New Year’s. However, all this never happened. When the MAFS season 12 reunion was about to air, Ryan and Clara announced they were going their separate ways. Although many people speculated that their lack of sexual chemistry contributed to their relationship’s demise, that wasn’t the case. Ryan clarified that Clara’s failure to learn more about his culture contributed to their divorce. Here’s what Ryan has been up to since he moved away from the limelight.

Ryan & Clara’s Married At First Sight Journey

Ryan, a project manager, was looking forward to what this new experience would offer. His goal was to get his person on Married At First Sight so that they’d later start a family. Ryan married Clara, a flight attendant, and they stayed together after Decision Day. Clara didn’t share similar goals as Ryan, leading to their divorce shortly after MAFS season 12 ended. In a lengthy Instagram post, Ryan gave insight as to what contributed to their breakup. Ryan wrote in part:

“You can’t truly be open to marry another race and not want to marry their culture. The black experience and the black culture are not monolithic, there’s no one size fits all shoe. It’s ever evolving and changing with time.”

Ryan is black, and Clara is white. The couple made history as the first interracial couple on the show. Therefore, her lack of learning more about black culture, as Ryan claimed, obviously didn’t sit well with him. These differences were too much for the twosome to move past, resulting in their separation. Notably, the couple also struggled with intimacy and communication. Hence, their breakup wasn’t surprising.

What Does Ryan Do For Work?

When he joined MAFS season 12, Ryan worked in payroll services and earned more than $500,000 yearly. He worked as an advanced repair agent before climbing the ladder and becoming a manager. According to his LinkedIn profile, Ryan is a senior consultant at Workday. He’s held this role since July 2023. The former Married At First Sight reality star has a couple of certifications under his belt, including Lean Sigma green and white belt certification, which might have significantly contributed to his senior consultant position.

Ryan Is Extremely Into Fitness

Ryan is so passionate about fitness that he often shares his workout videos with his online community. The former MAFS cast member has been sharing his fitness journey on his Instagram page since June 2020. He posted some videos and instructions on some of the exercises he did.

Along with a long post reflecting on his workout journey. However, Ryan also talked about the challenges black people face because of their skin color while addressing the death of a young black man who had died while exercising in his neighborhood. Since that post, Ryan has shared more workout sessions, which have diversified from regular excuses to CrossFit.

Ryan’s Family & Love Lives

When he joined the MAFS season 12 cast, Ryan aimed to start a family and have kids. However, in one of the MAFS episodes, the couple argued about how they would raise their future kids. The debate was whether they’d raise their kids in a religious environment. Ryan was adamant about not wanting his kids brought up religiously, but his wife disagreed. However, Clara clarified that she was ready to have the children in a safe environment where they could explore other religions.

Still, Ryan maintained that he didn’t want them exposed to church. In a confession, the MAFS star continued to say that isn’t what he was looking for, which showed how different their family values were. Ryan and Clara had a couple of mutual friends. They had also somehow crossed paths before the MAFS experiment, as they had both attended Lil Wayne’s and Blink-182 concerts in Atlanta in 2018.

In spite of those coincidences that would have shown the universe wanted them together, they were still incompatible, primarily because of their different family values. The argument on whether religion was important or not when bringing up children was a clear sign that the Married At First Sight couple would hit a rough path somewhere along their married life if they’d stayed together. It’s still unclear whether Ryan found his life partner, but the former Married At First Sight contestant spends most of his time working out, caring for his dog, and hanging out with his nephew.
