Married At First Sight Season 18: Ikechi Ojoré & Emem Obot’s Accusations Against Each Other Explained (Has Emem Been Vindicated?)
Married at First Sight season 18 couple Ikechi Ojoré and Emem Obot have hurled accusations against one another in the breakdown of their marriage, but Emem is the one who is vindicated after the latest episode. Ikechi is a 41-year-old College Counselor. Season 18 is actually his second time applying for the show. He previously applied for Married at First Sight season 13 in his native Houston. Emem is a 35-year-old Nurse Practitioner who owns her own medspa business. Ikechi and Emem initially had chemistry at the altar, and were smitten with each other going into the honeymoon.
Since then, their marriage has unraveled into a slanderous and ugly disconnect with rippling effects. Ikechi and Emem are joined in Married at Fist Sight season 18 by four other couples, Karla Juarez and Juan Franco, Madison Myers and Allen Slovick, Camille Parsons and Thomas, and Michelle Tomblin and David Trimble. Michelle and David looked like the ones who would end their relationship first due to Michelle’s deep disdain for what David was representing. However, they have persevered through the process, whereas Ikechi has dodged doing the work, leading to his and Emem’s split right after their one-month anniversary.
Ikechi Called Emem “Aggressive”
Upon returning from their Mexico honeymoon and taking steps to settle into their new shared apartment, Lifetime’s Ikechi spoke badly about Emem. Ikechi didn’t like the way Emem questioned him in her efforts to get to know him better. He kept saying, “I don’t know you,” and called her “aggressive.” During their house-warming party, Ikechi and Emem were asked by Emem’s friends and family to describe each other in five words. Emem used positive sentiments, while Ikechi reiterated that he thought Emem was “aggressive.”
From there, their marriage went further downhill, as Emem described that Ikechi got loud with her over a dinner they had off-camera, and she had not spoken him since. They met with MAFS expert, Dr. Pia Holec, to iron out what was going on between them. Ikechi came in hot, and detailed another form of aggression he thought Emem was displaying.
Ikechi Says Emem Changed Over Sᴇx
Ikechi came into the sit-down with Emem and Dr. Pia with an attitude that Dr. Pia quickly checked. When the trio dug deeper, Emem encouraged Ikechi to say what was really bothering him. He claimed Emem was sᴇxᴜᴀʟʟʏ aggressive, and was making unwanted sᴇxᴜᴀʟ advances that deterred him and made him feel like his boundaries weren’t being respected. Emem said that it was Ikechi who made the first sᴇxᴜᴀʟ move during the honeymoon by placing her hand on his crotch.
In any case, through Dr. Pia’s guidance, Emem issued an apology.
“I came into this just being who I am, and it was too much for you, and I’m hearing that now.”
From there, the pair both agreed that they wanted to continue in their marriage, and that they would approach things differently.
Emem and Ikechi had a park date after that, where Ikechi was unappreciative and standoffish, and Emem let him lead the stale conversation. Then, on their one-month anniversary, Ikechi called Emem an “a*****e,” after she read their vows aloud. Ikechi left the apartment after that statement, and provingly did not return Emem’s calls or texts. During the one-month anniversary dinner with the other couples, Ikechi showed up late and with a bad attitude.
He stormed off after getting confronted by Emem and the rest of the couples, and revealed more about how he felt about Emem.
“The moment I said I don’t want to have Sᴇx with you, everything changed. Like she shut down. I don’t know her enough to say hey lets have Sᴇx. From day one she been jumping on me. “
He once again used the word “aggressive” after that when describing Emem.
Emem Thinks Ikechi Wanted Someone He Could Tear Down
During the group dinner, when asked about what was wrong in his marriage, Ikechi said, “I have no peace in my home.” Further stating, “My wife makes me feel like s**t.” The other couples were taken aback by Ikechi’s strong assertions, leading them to call him “hostile” and “insulting.” When Emem confronted Ikechi about not receiving a response from him after she called and texted him the prior few days, Ikechi said he never received anything.
Ikechi’s statement among the group caused Emem to leave the table to gather herself and call him a liar. Upon her exit, Emem said, “F***ing clown. You bring me a clown you gonna get a circus.” When Emem returned to the table, Ikechi left. When speaking with producers during his departure, Ikechi tore Emem down more.
“I don’t have the capacity to be with immaturity. This is on some kid s**t. You want what you want when you want it.”
When Emem went back to the apartment to find Ikechi’s things gone, she reflected.
“Ikechi is not willing to do the work. It’s very hurtful to be treated the way Ikechi has treated me especially because I’ve done nothing but try to understand him.”
Ikechi was trying to manipulate the optics during the group dinner and throughout the experience, but it backfired on him. He presented himself as angry, manipulative, and unwilling to compromise or learn about his wife. When Emem was in the bathroom talking with Camille, she made a poignant assessment.
“I think he was hoping he had someone who was less educated who he could pull the wool over. So he said, ‘I’m gonna tear her down in any way possible.'”
Was Emem Vindicated By Ikechi’s Behavior At The Anniversary Dinner?
Ikechi’s full-on displays of immaturity, an unwavering desire to be unreasonable, and a cruel streak both towards Emem directly and in front of the group were wholly negative.
He led Emem and the group to feel disdain for him, as he came off as villainous and abhorrent.
In her bathroom conversation with Emem, Camille relayed, “He’s supposed to be this woke black man, and you are calling a black woman aggressive, like that’s literally rule number one.” During an interview with producers, Madison called Ikechi a “con artist.”
The whole group felt bad for Emem, and came away from the one-month anniversary dinner harboring resentment towards Ikechi. They all agreed that Ikechi needed to do work on himself, but that he displayed an unwillingness do so. Emem was absolutely vindicated by Ikechi’s statements and behavior as she took the high road and reminded the group that she “never called him anything outside of his name,” as he had done to her. Ikechi is discrediting himself in Married at First Sight season 18, while Emem is exonerating herself of any wrongdoing.
