Married At First Sight Fans Slam Series For Double Standards About Villainous Couple David Trimble & Michelle Tomblin

Married At First Sight fans are slamming the show for its clear double standard regarding the season’s villains, Michelle Tomblin and David Trimble, and how their relationship is edited. While Michelle and David are only one of Married At First Sight season 18’s couples, the pair have been tough to deal with throughout the season. Despite there being other couples with issues on the series, David and Michelle’s behavior has been catching viewers’ eyes throughout the season, especially when they’ve behaved poorly. While David is coming off like the average good guy, Michelle has been edited to seem unfailingly difficult.

MAFS viewers have noticed that the way Michelle and David are edited and perceived is completely different. While David has been made to seem like he’s in the right most of the time despite withholding the truth from his MAFS wife, Michelle has been made to seem like a complete villain for reacting to her MAFS husband’s less-than-ideal situation. Reddit user u/Stargazerlily425 explained, “[David] has proven himself to be listless, juvenile, and unambitious. Why should Michelle want that?” Explaining in-depth that both Michelle and David are flawed, fans shared their disappointment with the perception of the couple.

What MAFS Fans Calling Out A Double Standard Against Michelle Means For The Show

Although David and Michelle’s relationship hasn’t been easy to watch, Michelle has been getting the majority of the backlash when it comes to MAFS fans. Viewers have struggled to see Michelle as disappointed or hurt about her Married At First Sight match, instead believing that she’s more of a villain than anyone else because of her strong negative reaction to her husband. Regardless of how Michelle has reacted to David, her reaction to finding out that she’s been matched with someone she doesn’t click with at all is valid. While Michelle may need to work on things, she’s not wrong.

Married At First Sight viewers have been seeing David as a relaxed guy who’s gotten the short end of the stick in his marriage because of how Michelle has reacted to him. While he definitely doesn’t deserve to be put down for his current state of life, David wasn’t honest with Michelle or the MAFS experts about his situation. As the couple have moved through the season, MAFS fans seeing that the show is sharing a double standard shows that the edit of the series is meant to sway viewers for and against certain cast members, painting them as villainous.

Our Take On The MAFS Double Standard

Although Michelle clearly has some issues she needs to work through regarding how she’s treated David throughout the course of their marriage thus far, Married At First Sight prioritizing making David look good over showing his flaws outwardly is questionable. The couple’s relationship is far more complicated than is shown on screen, and it’s clear that David and Michelle’s behavior has been edited down to give viewers just a taste of how their marraige looked. Regardless, the pair’s Married At First Sight journey has a lot more to it than viewers have had the opportunity to see.
