90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way star Armando Rubio has a painful past that he hasn’t discussed on the show during his storyline with Kenneth Niedermeier. The 34-year-old Armando and 60-year-old Kenny were the 90 Day Fiancé franchise’s first same-sex male couple, and are still together despite all odds in their relationship since The Other Way season 2. Kenny and Armando returned for The Other Way season 5, and viewers are interested in knowing about not just their baby journey, but also their history before reality TV.

Armando knew he was gay from a young age, but gave in to the macho culture around him and suppressed his sexuality. He had a relationship with a woman to make his feelings go away, got married to her, and welcomed a daughter named Hannah. Armando’s ex-wife outed him to his mother when he eventually told his wife the truth. His mom’s disbelief made Armando force himself back into the closet, and he didn’t speak about it to her mom ever since. Still, Armando couldn’t save his marriage anymore.

Armando’s Wife Was Pregnant When She Died In A Car Accident

Armando added, “After I came out to my wife, we decided to separate.” He had been separated from his then-wife for three or four months before her passing for several reasons including her anger issues. Armando didn’t get into the details of his wife’s death by accident on camera, but he did share heartbreaking information on Instagram in June 2020. On the evening of her passing, and amid divorce proceedings, Armando and his ex got into a disagreement over finances. He decided to tackle the situation later and wanted to return home.

Around 15 to 20 minutes later, Armando was driving down the highway when he was suddenly struck from behind and was hit again. “As I continued down the highway I then realized it was my ex-wife, and before I knew it she lost control of her vehicle and passed away on the scene.” The car overturned, and the seven-month-pregnant woman met her demise. Armando recalled it being a tragic event in his and three-year-old daughter Hannah’s lives since he lost not only his ex-wife, but also an unborn baby. It was a difficult time for everyone involved including Armando and their family and friends, and it has been a long grieving process for them.

Armando Became The First Cast Member To Come Out On 90 Day Fiancé

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 2, episode 2 became an important one in Armando’s life because he became the first-ever cast member to come out on camera in the franchise. He had lied to his family that he was filming a documentary about life in Mexico while he was filming the reality TV show with Kenny. Since Armando hadn’t officially come out to his family, he told his sister about his feelings in this episode. With Kenny moving to Mexico in two weeks, Armando had then been compelled to tell his family the truth about his sexuality in one of the franchise’s most emotional scenes.
